It’s crazy to think that the Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs will play each other four times in less than a month, even though they are in the same division. But that is exactly what will happen, starting this week.
Here is everything you need to know how to watch tonight’s rivalry game between the Sabres and the Leafs.
Buffalo Sabres vs. Toronto Maple Leafs
Date: Wednesday, March 14
Location: Key Bank Center, Buffalo
Time: 7:00 p.m. ET
TV: NBCSN, TSN4
When the 2017-18 NHL schedule came out, many thought this would be an exciting matchup of two teams battling for the playoffs and featuring the two youngest stars of the game.
The bad news is both of those young stars are injured, and the Sabres are nowhere near the playoffs. When the season started, many thought the Sabres were going to be a young team that took the next step toward the playoffs. Instead, they fell flat on their face to start the year and were out of the playoff chase early.
One of Buffalo’s bright spots was center Jack Eichel, who was leading the team in scoring and got elected to his first All-Star game. Unfortunately for the Sabres, Eichel suffered a high ankle sprain and is working his way back. Even without Eichel, the Sabres have been able to piece together some decent games recently, winning three of their last five. They were able to beat good teams, too, upsetting the Boston Bruins and the Tampa Bay Lightning. They will not want to let the Maple Leafs come to their arena and take an easy two points.
The Maple Leafs have been able to build on their great season last year. The offense is still high-scoring and Frederick Anderson has been solid in net for the Leafs.
Heading into Monday night’s game, Toronto is 15 points clear of the Florida Panthers for the last playoff spot in the Atlantic division. The Leafs will be without their top center, Auston Matthews. Matthews suffered a second-degree shoulder sprain on February 22 and has been out of the lineup since.
